The Amazing Spiderman Movie Series 6" Lizard

First up, apologies to the Rangerlord!--I saw this figure for the first time when I was on vacation in Malacca and had never seen before in Singapore.  There was one him and Ultimate (Miles Morales) Spiderman for S$28 each, so I grabbed them both!  At that price, I was thinking it was a steal compared to the Marvel Legends retail price of S$39.90 back home.

The Rangerlord was game for Miles and I was so-so, so I handed it off to him for what I had paid.

But of course, I then start seeing these everywhere retailing for S$24.90 in Singapore.  I felt really bad that he had to pay a few extra bucks for them, but the price was too good to resist.

So I picked up Miles.

I also picked up movie series Spidey for just under S$20 at a Metro department store sale a few days later.

The moral of the story?  For every good deal you find, you're likely to make a bad one too.  Of course, it's not entirely terrible paying a few more dollars in this case, but it was for someone else.  I guess on my part it pays to be patient.  Then again, you can end up being too patient and miss the boat altogether. (Memories of Marvel Universe Vision come to mind...)

On to the subject in question:  The Lizard!

What's in the Wes Box?: The Avengers 6" Captain America! (Walmart Exclusive)

Walmart Exclusive 6"
The 3.75" Retail Version
"What's in the where???..." you ask?

Well, some weeks back, my ol' buddy-in-arms from the Articulated Discussion days Wes Dennis scored me some Walmart Exclusives--and the box arrived this week, much to my delight! (Big shout out and thanks to Wes of Scary Crayon!)

The Avengers movie 6" Captain America was the first figure I pulled outta Wes' Wonder Box of Plastic Goodness, and with 3.75" avengers Shield Launcher Captain America the only figure in that line in that scale I have on the review burner, I've decided to make this a double-header!

Ok, ok, so I haven't gotten around to Avengers 3.75" Hawkeye yet though I got him some time back now.  But I certainly couldn't help not reviewing my first 6" Avengers figure right here, what with it being a Walmart Exclusive and all.  And since I'd taken individual pictures of the 3.75" Cap, I thought a comparison review would be a great idea.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy a double dose of movie Captain America goodness! ;)

From here on out, it's gonna be a game of "Spot the Difference."  Are you ready?  Here's a clue: ears. ;P

Captain America The First Avenger 6" Captain America

I've had this guy for months now but hadn't gotten round to opening him for some reason or other.  Along with 6" Movie Thor and 6" Nick Fury from The First Avenger movie line, the trio would form the base of what would form my 6-inch movie Avengers collection.

But it wasn't until I started seeing the Avengers 3.75" stuff in stores that I felt motivated to open this bad boy.
The Rangerlord deserves yet another special mention for snagging me Movie Cap from Malaysia for about half of what it would cost at retail here in Singapore.  And with this figure and the recent release of Waves 1 and 2 of Marvel Legends all I can say is this: when it comes to making 6" figures, Hasbro has got down to a T.

No, the "T" doesn't stand for Turkey any more than the A on Cap's forehead stands for France! ;P

Marvel Legends Red Hulk Series: Silver Savage

This was the other figure I wanted to get after King Hulk when I read the Planet Hulk story arc.  It's another figure that captures a character in a certain period of time in his costume, and yet is instantly recognizable.  And this version of the Silver Surfer is so awesome that they had to change his name to the Silver Savage.

Perhaps it's also the way he's introduced in the story--we so into the Hulk's journey that we don't even think about what other characters with interstellar means of travel might show up.  And the Surfer/Savage is perfect for the role of reigning champion of the gladiatorial arena on Sakaar--until the Hulk shows up. ;)

I guess I put off getting the Silver Savage until a week ago because he wasn't part of the Hulk Series "wave" and because I always found something else to buy ahead of him.  But I'm glad I found him loose at the local toy "flea" market from the very same guy I bought King Hulk from 18 months or so ago.  And for how often I don;t see this figure any more, I felt S$22 was awful reasonable for him.
So here he is in all his silver glory!

Marvel Legends Hulk Series: King Hulk

I got this Hulk after reading and falling in love with the Planet Hulk graphic novel--it's gotta be the most original and off-the-beaten path Hulk story arc ever!

Besides the literally otherworldly story line, the Hulk's look changes distinctly and yet retains the old familiar characteristics of the Big Green Behemoth.

The same goes for this 6 inch scale figure--one look and you'll know it's the Hulk and yet you'll also realize that his attire can only mean he's been through some unique situations that have forced him to adjust and adapt.  Even if you haven't read Planet Hulk, you'd notice that he's not like other un-accessorized Hulks--this bad boy comes with a broad short sword and battle axe.  More juicy details later! ;)

I bought this guy about a year-and-a-half ago and only recently opened him.

Why?  Because I had the sudden urge to build the wave's Build-A-Figure: Fin Fang Foom.  What with all the Iron Man buzz about a month or so back, and me making a nice sum off some exclusive toys I didn't really wanna keep, I decided to go for the rest of the Target Exclusive Hulk Series.

I only had this Hulk and the Grey Hulk then, and the Absorbing Man and Doc Samson were rather cheapish, so I went for it.  Savage She-Hulk and End Hulk were tougher to find and expensive, but I figured that since I'd always wanted Hulks of all shapes and sizes, some supporting cast wouldn't hurt.  Oh and I'd have a giant ass dragon as well. ;)

And so I present to you the King of Sakaar himself, the one they call Green Scar, the one who's the World Breaker!

Iron Man 2 Toy Line Crossover: Marvel Legends BAF Fin Fang Foom!

FIN FANG FOOM!!!

"He Whose Limbs Shatter Mountains and Whose Back Scrapes the Sun."

It's also what you say in the streets if you want people to think you;re nuts.

Gotta love the ol' villainous dragon of the Marvel Universe.  In this case, it's the BAF from the Exclusive Hulk Series.

I wouldn't have even thought of putting this guy together if I hadn't lucked out and bought a couple of Marvel  Universe online subscription only Nick Furies that I happened to see in a department store for retail. What they were doing on sale there, I don't know.  What I do know is that they cost a pretty penny and I sold them, making more than enough to deliver all the pieces I needed to form the notorious F.F.F.

Well check out my review of this bad Mamma Jamma over at Articulated Discussion!

Iron Man 2 Comic Series 6" Mark V

Now I normally don't go for the 6 inch figures (yeah right--a look at my recent posts will totally disprove that statement), but I made an exception for these guys.  Oh yeah, I forgot I do but my fair share of DC Universe Classics figures.  And there were the He-Man and Skeletor MOTU Classics figures...But as far as Marvel goes, I've limited myself to Hulk figures.  And only the recent desire to assemble Fin Fang Foom made me cave and get that Hulk exclusive wave. Even then, those were Hulk related characters.  So this Iron Man Mark V represents my first real adventure into the 6" Marvel figure universe.

I was totally blown away with the way this guy looked in the photos, so I couldn't resist when the Rangerlord asked if I wanted to get one because he was swimming in a pile at some local department store.  So thank you once again, good sir.  You're once again the reason why I didn't miss out on this sweet piece of movie toy magic.  So go!  My review!  It's at Articulated Discussion, along with almost all my other Iron Man reviews. :)

Marvel Legends Face Off Hulk!!!

This has got to be one of the first Marvel Legends figures I got way back when I only wanted to get one Hulk, the perfect Hulk, and the Rangerlord pointed me to this 2-Pack Hulk that came with the Leader.

A few years and quite a few Hulks later, I pull out this guy and realize that he's a pretty damn good Hulk.  In fact, he's probably the best damn Hulk out there sculpt-wise, articulation-wise, and maybe even paint-wise.

So put aside your Marvel Universe Hulks, your other Marvel Legends Hulks, and of course your Megos Hulk, kick back and take a gander at this review!

Starting Right From the Top!

How else better than to kick off the toy reviews of 2010 here on Chese Variant other than with the first letter of the alphabet?  That right, "A" is for ...

Abomination! (Raarrrrggghhhh!)

This 2008 movie line version of Hulk's nemesis is a beauty to say the least.  What a toy and what a steal at only S$5 (about US$3.60)! I only picked him up on Pre-Christmas clearance because I'd heard (or seen somewhere online) that he was sought after.  The amount of plastic used for this guy...let's just say this fella was heavier than expected in packaging, much heavier.

It's funny how they've treated this (I assume) dead Hulk toy line--we get 4 or 5 different Hulks (Mega Kick Hulk, Power Punch Hulk, Transformation Hulk, Mega Clap Hulk...I think those are the names. Or close to 'em....) But we get only one Abomination!  And he isn't even in scale with the Hulk!  The others clearly are meant to go with 3.75" figures, as evidenced from the Hulkbuster that comes with Mega-Kick Hulkand the Hulkbuster Hummers, which is right at home with GI Joes in it. Abomination is definitely in the 6" scale.

It also boggles the mind that A-Bomb here has 28 points of friggin' articulation, while the Hulks I mentioned above are lucky to even have half of what this guy has.  The only movie Hulk figure that matches up in terms of articulation is the Target Exclusive 2008 Movie Line Hulk (I think he's a 40th anniversary special edition too?). But as far as looks go (yes, I'm comparing the looks of the Hulk and the Abomination. Go figure.) A-Bomb here turns out to be the more movie accurate and proportionate.  Unfortunately, that Hulk has really long arms!

So click on the link to check out more pics as we talk Hu....er...Abomination!
