Double Score!

It's been quite a while since I posted a toy haul here on Chase Variant an that's because it's been a while since I've come home from a hunt with good success.

Today was one of those few and fare between days.

Off from work for a day just to enjoy time with the wife and kid, we walk into one of the department stores that I like to look for game (OG Orchard).  Now the great Singapore Sale is currently ongoing, so there's a storewide 20% off discount.  I step into the  Marvel aisle and am greeted by a rare sight in this neck of the woods: Gamma Smash Hulk.  Not one, but three of them...

Knowing that The Avengers Series 3 case of 12 3.75" figures comes in an assortment of 3x Hulk, 2x Reactron Armor Iron Man, 1x Fusion Armor Iron Man, 1x Cosmic Spear Loki, 2x Skrull Soldier, 2x Movie Hawkeye, and 1x Grapple Firing (Movie) Black Widow, my Spider Sense starts tingling!  My son points to a Captain America chest light.  I grab it for him...And spot Hawkeye!

Snatching him off the shelf (Hawkeye, not my son), tell my wife that I'm also looking for ScarJo and immediately spot a Skrull Soldier.

*Grab*

The wife digs beneath the pegs and pulls out a figure that was placed face down under the figures on the pegs.  It's Natasha Romanov.  Wheeeee!!!

"Someone was obviously hiding this..." she said as she drew another Hawkeye from the same place.  We looked for another Widow for the Rangerlord (because I texted him and he wanted one, of course) but could only find two more Skrull Soldier.  I was about to give up when the sale assistant brings back about 5 or 6 figures and re-hangs them on the pegs--someone had decided at check-out that they didn't want some figures--and I see another Skrull Soldier!  So there had to have been more than one new case of Series 3 opened.  Cursing my luck (the Rangerlord's luck, really) I pay for my mini-haul.

But later at night, the wife and I are on a much needed might out alone without the boy.  We go to one of the neighbourhood malls (Nex) to catch Snow White and the Huntsman (meh) but decide to swoop on another local department store (Isetan) to try our luck.  Now we usually don't find anything there.  But guess who we found in the Marvel Universe section:

That's right, Wave 21 Jubilee!  Jubilation!

No Blastaar or Chuck Xavier in sight, though.  The ones I'd seen on Ebay went for US$63 and US$132 respectively.  Jujube wasn't too bad herself, fetching some 52 big ones.  I guess that's what happens when you see a figure that's five waves away from being released.  *Shrug* ;)

And I just didn't find one of her, oh no.   I found two!  Double happiness!

Before I had time to recover from shock, Melissa says, "There's Black Widow!"  I look over at the Avengers pegs, and there she is, front and centre.  There's more grabbing.  I find two more Hawkeye, two more Skrull Soldier, and some Hulks.

At the end of the day, I left all the Skrull Soldiers I found on the pegs.  Their lack of wrist and ankle articulation worked against them for me.  But they do have excellent head sculpts, though.  My haul?  Two each of ScarJo Black Widow, Jeremy Renner Hawkeye, and Jubilee!

Good times. :D

  1. Wow! Mighty muggs then, and now it's seems that you have almost completed your 3.75 movie Avengers line up - Congratulations on that. Can you pose em all when you review Scar Jo and Renner? All movie lines are easy pass for me, but we'll see about Scar Jo. I'm excited now that new MU waves are now hitting shelves. Are JL Cyke and DR Strange shelfwarming in your place?

    1. Will do, good Sir! You know I can't refuse a good pose... ;)

As for Strange and Cyke, no they are not! They can be found in the specialty stores, though, and in some cases have been sitting there for quite a bit. :/

    1. Yeah, she's really shortpacked so I really lucked out on going 2 for 2 for her. As for the review, She's probably next or at latest, next, next up! ;)

  4. That is soo not fine, what it is, is disgusting. If your a collecter cool; and my apologies, however, taking many to scalp peolpe online is pathetic. I'm sorry life hasn't gifted you with a well paying job, but some kid may just want a Hawkeye or 'Skrull Soldier': but you can only think of the extra 40 bucks you may rack up latter, lame o big time. You are blessed to have a wife that puts up with that crap.

    1. I completely agree! That's why I only bought the two of ScarJo, Hawkeye (leaving two on the pegs), and Jubilee - one each for me and one each for my buddy the Rangerlord. (Hence the "double score" title). I left all the Skrull Soldiers.

      I do not scalp.

My wife doesn't have to "put up" with any of that sort of crap.

But thanks for reading anyhow. :)

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I'm surprised they even released the MU Jubilee. We're supposed to get the new Hulk/She-Hulk Wave before Charles and Jubilee...Unless they're reversing the releases in this part of the world to create some artificial rarity...

    1. I hope so! I saw another one of her in a different Isetan just yesterday. To be frank, I've gotten quite a lot of figures from Malaysia via the Rangerlord. All the best in your hunt! :)

    1. Oh just ignore him, your site is to good to be bothered by that. :)
I know where he is coming from though. All the stores you go to have none since scalpers go buy them up and then the only way to get them is on eBay for way expensive. But then Black Widow is 1 per case and Hawkeye 2 per case so can you scalp on such short stock? And you were not going to sell them as a scalper so he never did read your article.
So due to all the figures great reviews by you and everyone else on the internet I just went and bought the Avengers wave 3 case from HasbroToyShop as it was the cheapest way for me to get them. Can't wait to get such great figures!
Keep up the good reviews here, they have inclined me to buy great figures! :)
And I hope you review some of the wave 4 figures when they come out!

    2. Ha, thanks! You're right--it's hard to scalp on a 1 or 2 per case figure.

Glad you enjoy the reviews! I don't have any newer wave Avengers figures planned as yet (Movie Cap is due soon though) but I do have a few Marvel universe surprises so stay tuned. ;)
